For the first time, the film directed by Varsha Bharat has faced a backlash from right -wing groups to portray a Brahmin schoolgirl, which clearly discusses sex and relationships. Varsha remarked, “I just wanted to write a character that was very reliable,” saying that “my film is not a self-help book.”

Filmmaker Pa Ranjith, who is not part of production, faced online backlash to support the film as “bold and refreshing”. Conversely, director Mohan ji criticized the film, saying, “Try with girls of his own caste and show it to his family first.”

The dispute around ‘Bad Girl’ outlines tension between artistic expression and cultural sensations in Tamil cinema. The film’s production is supported by famous filmmakers Wetrimaran and Anurag Kashyap, which highlights the high-profile nature of the controversy. His participation has given additional attention to the debate on the content of the film.

However, ‘Bad Girl’ approved the sensor barriers and a U/A certificate was issued. It was slated for a release on 5 September with Shivrathiqyan’s ‘Madharsi’. With the order of the new court, it is not clear that ‘Bad Girl’ will witness a smooth dramatic release in this September.
