Veteran Tamil filmmaker and composer Thakkali Srinivasan passes away in Bengaluru at the age of 72

The South film industry has mourned the demise of veteran Tamil filmmaker and composer Thakkali Sreenivasan. He was known for his versatility as an actor, producer, director, musician and screenwriter. The 72-year-old senior star passed away in Bengaluru due to health complications.

Thakkali Srinivasan passes away

Thakkali Srinivasan has supported films like Ivargal Varungala Thungal, Manasukula Mathappu, Nalaya Manithan, Jenma Nachathiram, Athisiya Manithan, Witness and many more. He also played the role of a villain in Kamal Haasan’s film Soor Samharam. But sadly, on March 10, 2026, the celebrated actor departed for his heavenly abode, leaving behind an impressive filmy legacy.

The famous yesteryear producer was 72 when he passed away in Bengaluru. His last rites will reportedly be performed on March 11, 2026 in Bengaluru. While his work in Telugu cinema made him a household name, he also won hearts with his kind and compassionate humanitarian service towards the society. Thakkali also supported an ashram and was living with his adopted children.

Industry publicist Nikil Murukan announced the news of his sudden demise. On X (formerly Twitter) he confirmed, “It is with great sadness to inform that producer/director/composer Thakkali Sreenivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru. His last rites will be performed tomorrow (March 11) in Bengaluru.”

His fans and industry insiders are mourning his tragic demise on social media. He started his career with the Tamil language film, Ivargal Varunagala Thungal followed by Manasukkul Mathappu. In 1989, he produced a science fiction film titled Nalaya Manithan. The tremendous success of the film prompted him to produce its sequel, Adhisaya Manithan, the next year.

In 1991, the late artist tried his hand at film production and directed the supernatural horror film, Genma Natchathram. Then came Witness, which featured Nizhalgal Ravi, Gautami, Amani, Raghuvaran, Suresh, J. There were actors like Livingston, Thakkali Srinivasan, Chinni Jayant and Baby Sowmya. Sreenivasan’s directorial catalog ended with Asokavanam and Aduthathu in 2011.

Apart from directing and producing, he also composed music for many of these entertainers. He was part of the famous Premi-Srini duo, who are credited with many iconic songs and music.
