Veteran actor-Filmekar Deb Mukherjee, Ayan Mukherjee’s father, dies in 83
Debu Mukherjee, experienced actor and filmmaker and member of the famous Mukherjee family have died. He is also the father of Brahmastra director Ayan Mukherjee.
Veteran actor and filmmaker Deb Mukherjee died on 14 March in Mumbai. A prominent member of the respected Mukherjee family, he was the son of mythological filmmaker Shashadhar Mukherjee and was an important person at the North Bombay Durga Puja ceremony. He is also the father of director Ayan Mukherjee.
Deb Mukherjee started his career as an actor, who was making his debut with Sambaban, and once joined successful films like Muskura Do and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. His influence increased beyond cinema, plays an important role in Bollywood’s cultural and artistic landscape.
He was also the father of filmmaker Ayan Mukherjee, who is known for Wake Up Sid and Brahmasatra. Her family relations in the industry were widespread, niece actress Kajol, and her daughter, Sunita, is married to the acclaimed director Ashutosh Gowariker.
Mukherjee’s crematorium is scheduled to take place on 14 March, 2025 in Juhu, Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai.
