Turkey is in talks with South Korea, Canada, China and Russia to develop new nuclear energy capacity, Energy Minister Alperslan Baykartar said on Wednesday, as Ankara pushes to expand its energy mix.Speaking to NTV, Baykartar said Turkey plans to build four nuclear reactors in the northern province of Sinop and four more in the Thrace region, a major step in the country’s long-term energy strategy.Turkey has not signed any agreements yet, with the government evaluating proposals from several countries before taking a final decision.“We will select the project with the most competitive terms and the one that makes the greatest contribution to localization,” Baykartar said in an interview. The planned expansion comes as Turkey seeks to reduce its dependence on energy imports and strengthen domestic capacity through localization requirements tied to major infrastructure projects.
