Actor-director R Parthiban breaks his silence on the controversy surrounding his comments about actor Trisha Krishnan at an awards show in an almost eight-minute video. In the video, he clarified his position, explained the context behind his comments, and responded to Trisha’s allegation that she had specifically requested that her photo be displayed on the platform.

Mistake or wrongdoing? Parthiban explains
Parthiban began his statement by carefully distinguishing between intention and accident. He said, “There is a difference between a mistake and a wrongdoing. A mistake is something done unknowingly. A wrongdoing is an act done voluntarily. Similarly, there is a difference between apologizing and expressing regret.”
He acknowledged that the awards show had made a mistake but was adamant that it was never intentional. He said, “When I was speaking about Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar, a picture of Trisha appeared on the screen. I was really shocked and I didn’t know how to react at that time. The claim that I had specifically requested to display her picture is 100 per cent false.”

On Trisha’s allegations and his regrets
Parthiban was candid about the moment he realized his words were read in a way he did not intend. He admitted, “I was talking about a third person who has no direct connection with me. In this case, the first person is Thalapathy Vijay, whose growth really makes me happy, and Sangeeta, his legal wife. I had no reason to bring a third person into it.” She said she immediately felt uncomfortable when her comments were interpreted as implying that women should stay indoors. “I don’t believe that and I regret that my words were interpreted that way,” he said.
A sharp response to Trisha
While Parthiban stopped directly naming Trisha in parts of his statement, he did not back down completely. He made his displeasure clear at the response, saying, “I was influenced by a third person and his third-rate tweet (ex-post).”
However, he said he was not disputing her right to criticize him. He said, “But in recent times, he has faced strong criticism from many quarters, including indecent comments and a public attack from a prominent political leader. Had he spoken out against them, I would have also fully welcomed his response to my comments.”
He concluded his statement by saying, “Instead, many people on the Internet have condemned me for expressing regret. But I am grateful to those who have stood by the truth.”
