Indian-origin techie returns to India after failing to get job in US

After months of searching and several grueling interview processes, an Indian-origin tech professional in the United States says he has accepted that it is time to return home.In a Reddit post titled ‘End of the road’ Coming back from the US, the senior tech employee, who says he has over 15 years of experience, shared that repeated attempts to secure a senior management role in the US had ended. He wrote: “Finally settled back in India. Tried my best to get an offer. Went through 3 full loops (6 rounds each), but not converted.”The user said that unsuccessful interview processes convinced him to come back to India, although he expects the job market to be equally challenging. He added: “Finding senior managers in technical jobs is tough, Shanti Banaya. Experience – 15+ years.”The user said he was preparing for a fresh start in the Delhi NCR region by accepting competition for senior technology roles.“I am assuming that the job market in Delhi NCR is worse and hopefully something will be achieved soon.”Despite the setback, the Reddit user said he planned his comeback carefully. He revealed that he intends to pay off his apartment in Gurgaon, thereby giving himself financial support while looking for a new role.“The only peace is – I’ll pay off the apartment I have in Gurgaon – and have 2-4 years of runway to settle down.”

The post details a discussion on Reddit, with many users focusing on the realities of relocating after working abroad. Many commentators stressed the importance of maintaining emergency savings, managing tax obligations in both countries, planning retirement finances, and ensuring health care coverage during the transition. Others suggested expanding the job search by considering positions below senior management level to improve the chances of finding work in India’s current hiring market. Some Reddit users also shared stories of professionals who returned to India after facing career setbacks abroad and later built successful careers. At the same time, others cautioned that hiring conditions for senior technology roles remain tough, making flexibility and financial planning increasingly important. Additionally, under the Trump administration, it is becoming increasingly difficult for H-1B workers to apply for and receive green cards in the US, leaving the future for many uncertain. As a result, many tech professionals are choosing to return to India, seeing it as a safer option.
