Tom Cruise had this bet before performing at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony; can you guess?

Tom Cruise gave a daring performance at the closing ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024. Although Cruise’s performance was iconic, he had put a condition in front of the organizers that he would be able to attend the event with the artists for free.

The condition for performing in the finale was that the actor would perform his own stunts without any body double. For the audience, the Jerry Maguire star put on a show by jumping off the top of the France stage and cycling through difficult scenarios. The superstar also boarded a plane and jumped off the flight to land near the Hollywood sign.

Casey Wasserman, chairman of the LA 28 Committee for Olympics 2028, shared details of Cruise’s performance at the global event. “The backstory is that we realized we were making a 15-minute live TV show, and so I hired the person who I think is the best person in the world to do this,” he revealed. Wasserman further added, “The best part of the story is that we pitched over Zoom, and the original idea was to have a person in the stadium as a stunt double.”

The president of the Olympic Committee claimed that the crew on set was convinced they would take one shot of the actor near the Hollywood sign and that would be it; the rest would be done by a body double. However, Cruise did not approve of the idea and claimed he would perform the stunts himself.

Wasserman revealed, “About five minutes into the presentation, (Cruise) says, ‘I’m in it. But I’ll only do it if I get to do everything.'” Meanwhile, the actor’s manager told the event’s chairman that the actor likes to do his own stunts, and that it gives him an adrenaline rush.

Although the crew believed that the shoot would go on for a long time, the Top Gun: Maverick actor proved them wrong. The Hollywood star completed the shoot in less time than expected. He was extremely dedicated towards acting and was completely engrossed in the performance.

On the other hand, Wasserman also shared details about Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible shoot. He said, “He finished shooting Mission: Impossible at 6 pm in London and boarded the plane straight away.” Wasserman further added, “They landed in LA at 4 am and filmed the scene where they board a military plane. In LA, they jump off the plane twice. They didn’t like the first jump, so they did the second one.”

Talking about work, Tom Cruise will next be seen in the eighth Mission Impossible film, which is scheduled to release in 2025.
