Tina Sodhi, 51, was found unconscious on February 10, 2025, at a wellness home where she had attended a three-day wellness retreat for which she had paid $2,000. More than a year later, Dr. Samuel Lee has now been arrested on charges of second-degree felony murder after medical examiners found that Sodhi was given drugs such as MDMA, ketamine, which contributed to dehydration due to prolonged heat exposure inside the sauna. The cause of death was revealed to be dehydration.

The wellness program Sodhi took at Sabia Wellness was called the Heart Protocol Ceremony, described as a treatment to help participants connect with their higher self. Sodhi was also asked to sign a waiver acknowledging that her participation was voluntary and that she understood the potential risks and side effects of the substances used.During the investigation, Miami Beach police consulted with an independent physician, who concluded that Lee’s conduct “reflected excessive and unreasonable deviations from accepted safety and clinical practices,” court documents state.Lee’s attorney entered a not guilty plea last week and requested a jury trial. His medical license in Texas has been temporarily suspended, with a board citing his “medical practice as a threat to the public welfare.”Richard Cooper, the lawyer representing the owner of Sabia Wellness House, said: “We are grateful that the police and the State Attorney’s Office looked at this case for what it is and what it is not and that my client was in no way liable for this tragedy. There are some great effective alternatives to Western medicine but tragedies ensue when not performed to the highest standards.”CBS News Miami reported that they visited the property where the ceremony was held but the owner was not present. The owner’s father said that his daughter was out of the country. Court documents indicate the owner also attended a Heart Protocol event.
