They’ll Kill You Exclusive: Tom Felton Recalls the Ease of Working with Director Kirill Sokolov and the Camaraderie with Zazie Beetz

Tom Felton has been a regular shopper at the Thriller Store, so when she walked in the door casting actors for Will Kill You, it seemed like a no-brainer, or so she said. Speaking exclusively to Pinkvilla, she revealed how her first conversation with filmmaker Kirill Sokolov turned into an almost hour-long conversation about all the films, which soon led to her signing.

Talking about the ‘fantastic’ time they had on set, Tom Felton revealed, “He’s very supportive, and he’s a lot of fun too. He reminds me of a kid in a candy store, where he gets all the different flavors of sweets he needs to make this incredible dessert that no one has ever thought about before. He has a youthful enthusiasm, and he’s so excited by everything, and he knows what the sweets should taste like. So when he does this Not perfect, yet his willingness to collaborate with everyone to make it what it should be has definitely fueled a lot of the cast and crew with a passion for filmmaking.”

But it wasn’t all that simple for the 38-year-old, who eventually learned the hard way how to do things around the set, “There’s not a single reference that he gave me that I knew, because it was always from these very obscure arthouse movies or things that I had on Google, which has also been great for my passion and learning about filmmaking.”

He had his work cut out for him, portraying Kevin, a member of a satanic cult, but it was Zazie Beetz who played the protagonist, Asia Reeves, who made it possible. Sharing what it was like working with her, Tom Felton revealed, “Zazie is amazing. She’s obviously the hero of our work, or she was our hero on the set as well. I’ve never seen an actor work so effortlessly, not just the fact that she’s in every single scene, or she’s in every single day. She’s been beaten up, they’ve had her thrown around Virgil barefoot with swords and blood and zip wires and bruises, and so “Looks like she’s doing it.” Take it all in stride, which is enviable, because I would have been moaning long ago, but it’s actually an honorable quality.

Talking about why working on the film is such a joy for him, the actor revealed, “If she’s that beautiful and hard-working, it makes the job a lot easier for the rest of us. But professionally, it’s hilarious because we’re sitting here wondering where she went on vacation last week or what she likes to cook at home, and then a minute later she’s chopping someone’s head off with a knife. So it’s never a boring moment. There is no office.”

They’ll Kill You will be released in international theaters on March 27, 2026.
