MAGA influencer Elijah Schaefer, known for his hatred of Indians, shot a video in Texas with a Hindu temple in the background as he commented on the recent Supreme Court decision upholding birthright citizenship. Pointing to the children in front of the temple, the MAGA influencer said the Supreme Court’s decision makes them as American as any other person who has lived in the US for centuries — despite the fact that their parents came to the US on H-1B visas, which are non-immigrant in nature.“That kind of brings up an interesting question. If your parents may not be American, maybe they’re here on a temporary visa, maybe they’re here on a green card, maybe they’re just a resident and we don’t really know but then if you have children here, those children are certainly citizens. This 4th of July, it kind of begs the question: What are we celebrating? If we are celebrating independence from England to get American identity, but American identity does not require blood, sweat, finance, tears or history...All you have to do is be born on a magical land…then the identity of what American really is no longer exists. And you don’t really know what you’re celebrating on the 4th of July, in this case,” Schaefer said.Schaefer wondered how the administration would solve the H-1B problem, the TPS (Temporary Protected Status) issue, if everyone born on U.S. soil is a citizen, as it became clear that their parents would be allowed to stay in the U.S. because separating families would no longer be possible. The hate speech received backlash from the Indian community. Commentator Sandeep Neel wrote onThe comment continued, “He also says he doesn’t trust anyone with an “Indian wife” like JD Vance to hold public office. Usha Vance was born in the US, but Melania Trump was not. She’s an immigrant, yet he totally agrees with this.”
