Xiaomi quietly released the affordable Redmi A7 Pro – it’s currently available in Italy and Indonesia. The phone is very similar to the Redmi A5 and Poco C71, except (as far as we can tell) it runs full-fat Android 16/HyperOS 3 instead of the lighter Go Edition like the other two models.

The A7 Pro is powered by the same Unisoc T7250 chipset, which is an older 12nm part. The more worrying specification is the 4GB LPDDR4X RAM – that’s not much for full Android and apps (Go Edition apps are lightweight). For storage, you can have 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.2. The good news is that there’s a microSD slot for extra storage on the cheap.

And that’s not all – there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack and a side-mounted (capacitive) fingerprint reader. We know some of you insist on these features, even though most high-end and even mid-range devices omit them.

The Xiaomi Redmi A7 Pro is a cheaper phone – in Italy it costs €130 for the 4/64GB unit and €150 for the 128GB upgrade, while in Indonesia it costs IDR 1,650,000 and 1,800,000 respectively. As a “cherry on top”, Xiaomi offers Spotify Premium for free for two months. Okay, it’s not much, but it’s more than we expected on such a cheap phone.

The phone has a huge 6.9″ LCD – it only has a 720 x 1,600px resolution, which is low. It reaches 800 nits in High Brightness mode and offers DC dimming. There’s no official water resistance rating, but the touchscreen can be used with wet fingers.

The battery is also quite large with a 6,000mAh capacity. According to official data, this is enough for about two and a half days of regular use. On a single charge, it can continuously play up to 35 hours of video or 77 hours of music. The battery is rated for 1,000 charge cycles and supports regular 15W charging. Well, the Redmi A5 and Poco C71 have a relatively smaller 5,200mAh battery.

The A7 Pro is available in Black, Mist Blue, Palm Green and (in Indonesia) Sunset Orange. It measures 171.6 x 79.5 x 8.15 mm and weighs 208 grams.

The T7250 chipset only has a 4G modem, but at least supports dual standby. It also has Wi-Fi 5 (AC) and Bluetooth 5.2. Positioning is handled by GPS (L1), GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou (B1C). There is no NFC.

We haven’t mentioned the cameras yet because there’s not much to say – somehow, they’re even less impressive than the Redmi A5/Poco C71 cameras. There’s just a 13MP main camera (1/3.06” sensor, f/2.2 lens) at the back, with 1080p 30fps video recording, and an 8MP (f/2.0) selfie camera at the front, also with 1080p 30fps video recording.

P.S. No sign of the non-Pro Redmi A7 yet.
