The Legend of Maula Jatt: India release of Fawad-Mahira Khan’s film stalled
The India release of Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan’s The Legend of Maula Jatt has been put on hold. The film was scheduled to be released in the country on October 2.

The release of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan’s film The Legend of Maula Jatt has been stopped in India. The film was originally scheduled to release in the country on October 2.
According to ANI, the decision comes after Indian films were banned in Pakistan since 2019. The film was expected to be the first Pakistani release in India in over a decade.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has been Especially vocal against the release of the filmEarlier this month, MNS cinema wing president Amey Khopkar told ANI, “We will not entertain any Pakistani films or actors in India,” and called on others across the country to join their protest.
He further said, “This film will not be allowed to be released. If this happens, strong protests will be held.” Khopkar stressed the emotional weight behind this stance, citing the ongoing tension on the border. “Our soldiers are dying. Why do we need Pakistani actors here? Don’t we have enough talent?” he asked.
The Legend of Maula Jatt is a remake of the iconic Pakistani Movie Maula Jatt. The story focuses on the legendary feud between Noori Nat, portrayed by Hamza Ali Abbasi as a ruthless gang leader, and local hero Maula Jatt, played by Fawad Khan.
The ban on Pakistani artistes in India was first imposed after the Uri terror attack in 2016. Despite legal challenges against the ban, the Supreme Court rejected a petition in November 2023 that aimed to lift the ban on Pakistani artists working in India.
The Legend of Maula Jatt was originally released in 2022. It was initially scheduled to release in India in December 2022. However, its release was delayed indefinitely, leaving fans disappointed.
Upon its release in Pakistan, The Legend of Maula Jatt grossed over Rs 400 crore at the global box office.
