On Sunday, the filmmaker shared a heartfelt note on X, appreciating Yami’s commitment to cinema and her belief in political action thrillers.

He wrote, “Hey @YamiGautam, I don’t believe in the concept of awards and never have, but I do believe in the power of recognition, especially when it comes from years of honesty as well as unwavering commitment to one’s art.”
The 64-year-old filmmaker said the honor is even more special because it has come for a film that was not just another project for Yami. She said that this was a story that she believed in deeply and brought it to the screen with utmost conviction.
Verma highlighted the struggles, determination and faith that have shaped Yami’s career, and described her National Award win as the result of years of hard work.
He further said, “The National Award may certainly feel like an incredible honor for you, but I am personally more impressed by the journey that has taken you here…struggle, perseverance, risk, belief and refusal to give up have slowly built it brick by brick to this moment of final construction and I am sure there will be many more buildings to come.”
