Superstar Rajinikanth does not need any introduction. He recently celebrated 50 years in cinema. His latest film, Kool, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraja, is doing quite well at the box office. It has crossed 460 crore rupees worldwide and is estimated to be terminated at a range of 490 – 505 crores, based on its performance during the festive season.

Expectations for Cool were Akash-high, expected to break the industry records. However, the film dropped out after a large-scale extended weekend, during which it grossed over Rs 375 crore. There was a slight resurrection in the second weekend, but such a spark is expected to be rare as the film is near the end of its run. Nevertheless, it is Rajinikanth’s third largest grosser and fifth largest -grossing Kollywood film. This speaks of their permanent stardom. Rajinikanth remains Kollywood’s undisputed megastar, with Thalapati Vijay as his only serious contender. Vijay’s Tamil and foreign markets are growing rapidly. Leo performed her global appeal, while the goat displayed how her star power can overcome a film with average content alone. Goat became the second Kollywood film for a gross rupee of Rs 200 crore in Tamil Nadu only after Leo.

Rajinikanth is a consistent box office force for decades, in which no actor has come close to his record for a long time. Even now, she holds a record for the highest -grossing Kollywood film. However, the competition is tight compared to once. In the 2000s and early 2010s, a Rajinikanth film overtook the second consecutive consecutive. Chandramukhi was crossed by Shivaji: The boss had later overtaken the Through. Kabali came close to Through Throating Throating, despite the Through-to-Negative Word of Mouth worldwide. 2.0 broke all Kollywood records and remains the highest -grossing Kollywood film even seven years after its release. It is expected that only another Rajinikanth film, or perhaps Vijay’s Jan Naygan, can break this record in the future.

As one of the busiest actors in Kollywood, Rajinikanth has begun working on his next major project, jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. There are also rumors that he will cooperate with Kamal Haasan on a gangster drama directed by Lokesh Kanagaraja.
