The director of Suriya’s Etharkam Thunindevan broke silence at the box office of the film: ‘It did not connect, I take responsibility’

Pandiraj, director of Etharkkum Thunindevan (ET), starring Suriya, was recently seen in an interview, reacting to the film’s failure. However, the filmmaker also said that even though his film is considered a flop, Surya has not managed to keep it on top with its recent enterprises.

Talking with Cinegam, director Pandiraj said, “Surya’s fans said that I did not give him a hit, but I worked with every other actor. It is not true. It is not true. I did the most difficult work for Ethrakkum Thunindevan for three years during Kovid -19 Pandimic. But, it did not work, and it’s not in our hands.”

“I gave a big hit for Karthi with Kadikutty Singam. I wanted to give a big hit for my brother Suriya with Ethrakkum Thunindevan. It did not connect. I did not take responsibility. I was not taking responsibility, I was making mistakes, I agree. But no one can dismiss that I did not work hard for the film,” said the filmmaker.

Pandiraj continued that even though the film was not expected in theaters, the producers were happy with the numbers he had met. Continuing his words, the director highlighted how Surya’s films did not perform well after ET.

The director of Thalaivan Thalivi said, “The films after Ethrakkum Thunindevan have not crossed their collection. Anyone can ask anyone in business. This is the truth. But we cannot go around that campaign.

Suriya’s previous work

After the release of Ethrakkum Thunindevan in 2022, Suria later acted in 2 films, ie Kangwa and Retro.

Kangwa, directed by Shiva, was a very hypnotized venture, in which the actor spent around 2 years on the film. The epic of the period tank at the box office and received a mixed-to-unaccounted review.
