‘The devil took possession of me’: Afghan migrant gives bizarre reason for drugging and raping two minors in his flat in England

Giving evidence yesterday with the aid of an interpreter, he told Bolton Crown Court (pictured) he was ‘sleeping uncontrollably’ at the time of the alleged attack.

An Afghan migrant has claimed he was under the influence of ‘the devil’ after he plied two 14-year-old girls with vodka and raped them in his Bolton flat. Sultani Bakatash, 29, is currently on trial and faces multiple charges including rape and sexual assault, the Daily Mail reports.Bakatash moved to Britain in 2022 in search of asylum. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and other sexual offences. He told the court that before coming to Britain he had served in the British Army for seven years and had fled Afghanistan due to the presence of the Taliban.During his testimony, Bakatash described feeling “uncontrollable sleepiness” on the day of the events. He claimed that initially he had called the girls to his flat asking for food. The court heard he met a girl outside McDonald’s after a gym session and later reunited with her in an Asda store. Believing that the girls were 18 or 19 years old, he agreed to buy food for them as promised. The situation worsened when Bakatash bought three bottles of vodka for the girls, insisting that he himself did not drink alcohol due to his Muslim faith. He said the girls had ordered an Uber to his flat and were in high spirits, taking selfies and giggling during the journey.Once they arrived, the young girls began mixing vodka with soft drinks and drinking. Bakatash claimed he was moved by the atmosphere and took a sip from a bottle. He said, “I think the devil possessed me and I drank from the bottle.”As the three continued to drink, Bakatash began to feel dizzy and nauseous, saying “I felt very bad” and began to feel sleepy. He said the girls then began a “sexy dance” and kissing, in which he joined in, before he felt himself faint. His barrister, Omar Shahzad, pressed him on whether anyone had done anything to him during the ordeal. Bakatash responded, “I can’t say.” When asked about his understanding of the girls’ actions, he admitted to being unsure, saying, “I wasn’t myself.”The defendant expressed that his initial invitation to the girls to see his flat and enjoy drinks was motivated by a simple promise to buy food for them. However, he finds himself facing serious charges that change the course of his life.
