Across all four seasons of The Boys, both on Amazon Prime Video and in the original comics, Erin Moriarty’s character Starlight is constantly caught in dangerous situations. She often suffers severe mental and physical scars as a result. Her journey unfolds against a grim backdrop, where superheroes have to navigate an exploitative and corrupt world that is anything but heroic.
Starlight grows from a wide-eyed outsider to a strong figure within The Seven, facing both internal moral dilemmas and external challenges. Her experiences transform her from an idealistic optimist to a more realistic and resilient individual.
Viewers are left worried as Starlight faces a variety of life-threatening obstacles, leaving her fate uncertain. The story depicts her perseverance and determination amid a complex web of power struggles involving superheroes, corporations, and secret government missions.
As Season 4 becomes more dramatic than ever – highlighted by the disturbing lobotomy sequence in Episode 3 – fans are increasingly turning to the comics to see how the action compares to the source material.
Does Starlight die in The Boys comics?
Annie January, sometimes known as Starlight, is a superhero who experiences repeated abuse and mistreatment throughout the comic book series The Boys.
After being forced to perform oral sex on the male members of The Seven during her induction and being sexually assaulted by A-Train, she eventually learned to advocate for herself.
Though her experiences are somewhat toned down in the Prime Video adaptation, Erin Moriarty’s interpretation of the character still exposes her to extremely brutal and inhumane conditions.
The Deep tries to rape her in Season 1, Episode 1, but she stands strong and defends herself against the Squad.
While working with The Seven, Annie January, better known by her stage name Starlight, develops a close bond with Hughie Campbell. Their relationship takes a different path when Annie accidentally reveals to Hughie that she is a superhero and mentally distresses him because she is associated with The Seven.
As time goes on, their relationship grows stronger as they deal with misunderstandings and share their experiences. In Hughie’s hometown in Scotland, they decide to get engaged and start over, where they eventually tie the knot.
Despite the difficulties and doubts surrounding superheroes, Annie overcomes the obstacles and triumphs over the hardships she faces. With Hughie’s unwavering support they achieve happiness, showing that love is stronger than uncertainty and adversity.
Starlight in The Boys Season 5
Although the trajectory of The Boys on Prime Video differs from its comic book origin, Hughie and Annie experience comparable difficult times in their relationship. Though the show sometimes takes artistic license, their first choice to hide who they are is practically taken straight from the book.
In Season 4, Hughie and the other boys were seduced by a man who impersonated Annie. He proposed to her because Hughie was convinced it was the real Annie, leading to their marriage – which also happens in the comics.
Hughie has to reveal that he knows the shifter isn’t his girlfriend, which leads to a heated argument. They reluctantly make up before chaos ensues. As the season ends, Homelander is officially on the warpath to find Starlight and the other traitors, and the newly elected US President has declared martial law.
In Season 5, Starlight’s daring escape story unleashes even more drama as she embraces her newfound freedom while evading her persistent pursuers. Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounding Hughie and Annie’s relationship further heightens tensions. Despite their tumultuous history, Hughie’s unwavering love for Annie prompts a possible reunion, rekindling their passion.
The prospect of marriage looms, offering both hope and hardship as they face personal and external obstacles. As the season progresses, viewers can expect subtle twists and dramatic revelations that shape the characters’ destinies in unexpected but interesting ways.
