In the video he said, “In my opinion, MGR sir is the God of Tamil cinema. While praising Kantha Rao sir, I accidentally used an offensive word about MGR sir. I sincerely apologize for my words, and I assure you that I will not repeat it again.”
The controversy started when Rajendra Prasad made comments about MGR while speaking about the acting abilities of veteran Telugu actor Kantha Rao during an award ceremony held in Hyderabad. During the speech, Rajendra Prasad said that MGR would have been intimidated by Kantha Rao’s folk films, adding that Kantha Rao’s performance could make one wonder why the actor was dominating Indian cinema.
The comment was immediately criticized by fans and celebrities in Tamil Nadu, where MGR is widely respected as both a cinema icon and a political leader. Actor Vishal also reacted strongly to the comments and condemned the comments made about the late actor-politician.
This is not the first time that Rajendra Prasad has apologized for comments made at public events. Earlier, the veteran actor had issued a clarification after jokingly teasing Australian cricketer David Warner Robin Hood Pre-release event on them Pushpa Passion, saying the exchange was in good humor and apologizing if his comments offended anyone.
