Tech Sorting 2025: Job cut continues amidst meta, microsoft, salesforce restructuring efforts

Tech giants such as Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Google and Celsforce continued their streak of job cuts in 2025, citing reorganization and performance adaptation. According to reports, till date, more than 10,800 employees have already been affected, expected to cut more jobs throughout the year.

The year 2022 ended with a large scale quake of trimmed, which continued its shiver in 2023 and even in 2024. However, there are no indications of uncertainty and slowing of job cuts, even in the new year, not as big as in 2025. Sorting, these short-phase pruning brings uncertainties this year too. As the year began, major companies including meta, microsoft, amazon, salesforce, and Google announced more downsizing, citing restructuring efforts and performance adaptations, expanding roles in Artificial Intelligence.

According to layoffs.fyi, 42 tech companies have so far shut down around 10,833 employees, with more job cuts in the whole year.

Microsoft announces a performance-based trim

Microsoft became one of the first major companies to declare pruning this year. The company confirmed job cuts in several divisions, in which the security division is allegedly among the affected people. Microsoft stated that these sorting mainly targeted employees who did not meet the expectations of performance.

However, despite the global reorganization, Microsoft’s head of India and South Asia, Puneet Chandok assured that the company’s India operations would be unaffected by these job cuts.

Meta aims to cut 3,600 jobs

Meta, the original company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, also announced a plan to launch about 3,600 employees. The count represents about 5 percent of its workforce, which cuts the first 5 percent job of the company announced in December 2024.

According to Bloomberg, CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained these job deductions in an internal memorandum as a part of “extending bar on performance management” and accelerating the removal of less performing employees. He said that the trimmed comes in the form of meta, which they have described as the “intense year” of restructuring and operational innings.

Amazon also announced job cuts

Amazon is also one of the technical giants that continue the line of its trimmed, which started in 2022. The company recently announced a job cut within its communication and stability divisions. However, the exact number of affected employees is still not revealed.

According to an internal memorandum received by the CNBC, Amazon’s leadership justified these recent trimins as correct as an attempt to eliminate the narrowly defined roles and unnecessary organizational layers. In particular, in the last three years, Amazon has cut around 27,000 jobs, restructuring efforts are still going on.

Salesforce to cut more than 1,000 jobs

Recently, Slesforce has joined the list of technical companies reducing its workforce in 2025. According to Bloomberg, the company plans to abolish more than 1,000 posts as part of a restructuring initiative. However, this trimmed comes amidst plans to hire more employees to support its expansion in AI-managed products among the plans of saving salesforce. The report also states that the prescribed employees will probably be given an opportunity to apply for other internal roles.

Google also carries out voluntary exit for employees

While Google has not announced a direct job cut, it has introduced a voluntary exit program for employees in its platforms and equipment divisions. This division is responsible for major products such as Android, Pixel, Chrome, Nest and Fitbit. Senior Vice President Rick Oosteraloh announced the program through an internal memorandum, if they choose to leave the US-based employee offers a break-up package.
