Taapsee Pannu says a slight bulge is healthy, cautions women against chasing a flat stomach

Actress Taapsee Pannu has spoken about the pressure to achieve a perfectly flat midriff, saying she once pushed herself very hard in her quest for an ideal body image. She urged women to embrace their bodies and avoid extreme measures just for the sake of picture-perfect social media photos.
Taapsee Pannu is struggling with lower belly fat
On Sunday, Taapsee shared a series of posts on Instagram Stories in which she reflected on her own experience and said that she realized late that it is healthy to have some amount of fat and water stored below the belly. She also said that women should not expect their bodies to look the same every day due to hormonal changes.

Recalling her obsession with having a flat midriff, Taapsee said, “I remember I had this obsession because while growing up, I was extremely fit, but I never understood why the lower belly fat was always there. I worked out intensely almost to the extent that I over-extended myself, and rightly so, when you push yourself more than necessary, it rings an alarm in your mind that your body needs protection.”
He highlighted that overworking can have adverse effects. The actor continued, “So instead of actually losing water retention, the body starts to retain it and then the lower abdominal fat, which may not actually be just fat, it’s also water retention, it’s retained, and it’s increased by overwork, which I really believe people shouldn’t do.”

Taapsee further said that every woman’s body is different and it is unrealistic to compare one midriff with another. She said, “It may not look like any other girl, so you need to accept it. I accepted it very late, after torturing myself a lot, and then I realized that some days it happens and some days it doesn’t.”
The actor emphasized the biological purpose behind targeting body fat. She shared that her nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal explained how important it is to have a small amount of fat and water accumulation below the abdomen.

Taapsee emphasized the physical characteristic as an important defense mechanism rather than a flaw, “because that’s where your reproductive organs are, and they need protection, and being a woman, you need that protection.”
She also appealed against chasing unrealistic body standards for photographs. The actor said, “It’s healthy for you. So just to get those great Instagram pictures, please don’t torture yourself. Having a little bit of a bulge and fat there is considered healthy. Please don’t torture yourself.”

Advocating self-love, the actor expressed his views with a serious appeal to social media to stop chasing unattainable aesthetic goals. She stressed that having a natural layer of protection is perfectly healthy, and urged her followers not to torture themselves “just to get those picture-perfect Instagram pictures.”
Reminding everyone that fitness should not come at the cost of health, Taapsee mentioned that a slight belly bulge is a normal biological trait. Assuring women to be pressure-free, she said, “A little bit of bulge and fat there is considered healthy. Please don’t torture yourself.”
