Taapsee Pannu on initial self-doubt: Why would anyone make me a heroine?
Taapsee Pannu recalls the insecurities about her beauty during the beginning of her career. She regretted tormenting herself with “self-doubt” instead of enjoying the process.

Actress Taapsee Pannu recalls her struggle with self-doubt during the initial phase of her career. She admitted her insecurities regarding her beauty and shared her doubts about whether anyone would offer her a lead role in a film.
Taapsee said in an interview Times NowTalked openly about the “beatings” he gave himself in the first few years of his career to make him learn a lot of things. She said, “I wish I didn’t feel like I don’t look like the biggest diva, so Why would anyone make me a heroine? (Why would anyone make me a heroine)? But this is not the only quality required to become a heroine. I didn’t have basic fashion sense, makeup sense, or even know what my best approach was – nothing.”
The actor said that this phase had a very bad effect on him mentally. The 38-year-old added, “I wish I wouldn’t have taken so much beating in the first few years to learn it all. I eventually learned everything, but the amount of beating I gave myself — it drained me mentally. I wish I didn’t feel that way and just enjoyed the learning process. That’s something I really wish someone would have told me.”
Taapsee also emphasized on the intense self-criticism she endured after professional failures. She admitted that she “killed” herself every day, constantly believing that she was inadequate. Taapsee said that “Failure is not just because of you. It is a cumulative team effort, but it is put on you,” highlighting the feeling of undue burden when projects are not successful.
The actor was last seen in Mudassar Aziz’s comedy-drama in play (2024). Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Pragya Jaiswal and Fardeen Khan were also in important roles in the film.
Taapsee will next be seen in director Devashish Makhija’s film. GandhariWriter-producer Kanika Dhillon’s Katha, backed by Pictures, is set to premiere on Netflix.
