At a promotional event in Hyderabad, RJ Balaji said that Suriya’s Karuppu was made for cinema hall audiences, not social media users. The trailer presents the film, releasing on May 14, as a mass entertainer built around Suriya’s action star image.

Director RJ Balaji has told about Surya’s upcoming film. Karuppu As a theatrical entertainment aimed at a cinema-going audience rather than “people on social media”. Speaking at a promotional event held in Hyderabad ahead of the film’s release on 14 May, Balaji said that the film was designed as a “mass masala” outing around Suriya’s version of what the audience has enjoyed in commercial hits.

Addressing the crowd at the pre-release event, Balaji said, “I don’t want to over-promise or over-deliver. This is a very entertaining, mass masala film with Suriya sir which we always love. Aayan, Singam And All the films we have seen of his – I wanted to show that Surya sir in the film.”
He then added, “This film is made for the people of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra (Pradesh). It is not made for the people on social media. It is made for those who celebrate cinema in the darkness of the cinema hall, not for those who do postmortems or analyze the film on social media. Not for them. It is for all of us to celebrate.”
