Surya and Trisha Krishnan’s Karuppu A last-minute release problem occurred on Thursday, May 14, and the scheduled 9 am show was canceled just hours before the film’s premiere. The update came after theater owners highlighted the growing financial hurdle on May 13.

Producer SR Prabhu announced the cancellation on May 14 at around 1 PM X and apologized to the audience. He wrote, “Due to unavoidable reasons the 9 am shows for Karuppu will be cancelled. We sincerely apologize to everyone.”

Earlier, director-actor RJ Balaji had acknowledged the financial issues and said that he was confident that the producers would resolve them by the night of May 13. However, the issues remained unresolved, delaying the film’s release plans.

Discussion of a possible postponement began after fans noticed that several theater chains had removed listings for the film from booking platforms. Soon after, theater owners also shared posts referring to internal financial issues.

After SR Prabhu’s announcement, many fans expressed their disappointment in the comments section and said that they were waiting for the film for more than two years. Development also came after Karuppu The team had sought permission from the Tamil Nadu government for a 9 am show in the state, which has been approved by Chief Minister Vijay.

Karuppu Suriya is in the lead role and it also stars Trisha Krishnan, Indrans, Nathy Subramaniam, Swasika, Shivada, Anagha Maiya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, Yogi Babu, Mansoor Ali Khan, George Marine, Aadukalam Naren, Namo Narayan, Deepa Shankar, Lollu Sabha Maran and Jaffer Sadiq.

The film has music by Sai Abhyankar, with GK Vishnu as cinematographer, R Kalaivanan as editor, Arun Venjaramoodu as production designer and Anbariv and Vikram Mor as stunt choreographers. It is produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner, with Arvendraj Baskaran as the executive producer.
