Surya says no one recognizes him in Mumbai, says Jyothika’s earnings are three times
Tamil actor Suriya talked about the struggles of his early days in the industry and how his wife Jyothika had become an established name by that time. He mentioned shifting to Mumbai to live with his parents.

Actor Suriya talks about relocating to Mumbai after spending most of his life in Chennai. In a recent interview, he also recalled his early days of struggle in the film industry when his wife Jyothika was a bigger star than him.
Was speaking in conversation with Surya mashable He said that he met Jothika when she was already earning three times more than him. The 49-year-old actor highlighted that when he acted opposite Jyothika, who was an established actor at that time, he could not even deliver his lines well.
The actor said, “Jyotika worked with me in her first Tamil film after Doli Saja Ke Rakhna in Hindi. Her second film was with me. After that, we were good friends, and had respect for each other. I Knew, I knew Tamil.” I was supposed to be an actor’s son, but I was stumbling, forgetting my lines and I didn’t know how to act. This was my third or fourth film, I had a lot of respect for her work, she knew the lines better than me. She knew them by heart and was very honest.”
The actor, who is now prepping for his pan-India film Kanguva, said it took him years to create an audience and market for him in the Tamil film industry. He shared, “Also, she reached the pinnacle of success and it took me five years to stabilise, it took me some time to call myself a hero and create my own market. At Kaakha Kaakha, her salary was three times mine. was excessive.”
Surya mentions the huge difference between their salaries and explains how, despite everything, Jothika’s family members agreed to marry her. “I also realized where I was in life at that time. She was ready to be a part of my life. Her parents also agreed, and I realized what I was earning and what she was earning “I realized I had to do my socks off and I had to be on par with him, at least be able to protect them, eventually it all happened,” he said.
Suriya on spending time with Jyothika’s parents in Mumbai
After spending almost 27 years together in Chennai, Jyotika and Surya decided to shift to Mumbai earlier this year. Surya said in the same interview, this decision was taken after careful consideration. He said that Jyotika’s family was in Mumbai and he wanted to be with them after spending so much time away from them.
“Mumbai is home, her family is here. Jyotika spends a lot of time with her parents, who are a little older than my parents. Jyotika was 18 when she left the city, and then she lived with me for 27 years. “The kids chose the IB curriculum, and there were just one or two schools for it in Chennai,” she explained.
However, Suriya revealed that he does not have widespread recognition in Mumbai. The popular Tamil star shared that he has to introduce himself to people, including his children’s school, where he is just ‘Suriya from Chennai’ and not any famous personality. “It feels good when I go to school, it happens in Chennai too, you realize that not everyone will recognize you. I have to introduce myself, and yes, they don’t ask about my profession. Surya and Jyotika have been married for almost 18 years. The duo is a leading name in the South Indian film industry, and is now emerging in the pan-Indian scene as well.
