Actor Surya has no plans to enter politics, the All India Surya Fans Club clarified in a statement issued on Monday. This clarification came after comments made by former fan club member and speaker R Veeramani at the recent meeting of state and district administrators, sparking speculation on social media.

Earlier, in a meeting, Veeramani had said, “If time decides, if God decides, no one can stop anyone from becoming the leader of the people,” sparking discussion over whether Surya was preparing for a political entry. Veeramani also released a video clarification later.

The fans club said in its statement that Veeramani had made it clear that his views were his “personal opinion”. It said his comments were being circulated with a “misinterpretation”, giving the impression that they reflected the organization’s official position.

The club also said that Veeramani has not been part of its administration for the last three years and urged people not to believe the rumors being spread online.

Reiterating Surya’s position, the statement said, “Mr. Surya has no intention of entering politics. Through the Agraham Foundation and his welfare initiatives, his continuous social service to the people brings him great happiness and satisfaction.”
