Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony after the blockbuster success of the film, Suriya said that he is hopeful about Karuppu Coming back soon with another chapter.
“I’m looking forward to the second installment as well Karuppu to be produced. I believe an update on this will be out soon,” the actor said with a smile, fueling speculations about a possible sequel announcement.
Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu Recently, it has emerged as the highest grossing film of Surya’s career. During the same conversation, the actor also revealed that he had signed the film immediately after hearing the story.
He said, “Having complete faith in RJ Balaji’s vision, I committed to the project in less than an hour. Positive things started happening from the day I signed for the film.”
Suriya further reflected on the scale of the response to the film, admitting that even the team had not anticipated its massive reach. “I expected success, but the sheer scale of achievement far exceeded our wildest expectations,” he said.
Earlier in an interview, director RJ Balaji had talked about making the release strategy of the film carefully. The filmmaker revealed that he turned down several release dates, including the January and February windows, as he believed that a May release would work best for the film.
According to him, the exam season and election-related political discussions might have affected the audience’s attention during the first months. He had said, “When we missed the Pongal window, my next target was to release in May. I was very clear about it.”
Karuppu Suriya stars opposite Trisha Krishnan, marking their reunion after almost two decades with Aaru. The film also stars Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Shivda and Swasika in important roles, while RJ Balaji plays the villain.
