Actress Ameesha Patel has sparked a debate on social media by talking about Bollywood’s “PR games” and actors ‘buying’ superstar status. On Friday he questioned actors who, according to him, project themselves as top stars without giving big box-office hits.

In a series of posts on X, Patel argued that the “superstar” tag should come from box-office records, not publicity. She also referred to her own filmography and said that she has given three major solo blockbusters, adding that her “fake PR machinery is weak unlike other actresses.”

What did Ameesha Patel say

In a post, Patel wrote, “Call yourself a superstar only when you have done something that creates history and takes the box office by storm. Till then, stop playing PR games to call yourself a superstar. Sorry, but this is the bitter truth.”

He also wrote that many actors who “have not even achieved a single blockbuster” are still calling themselves stars. Patel said that doing “2 average films a year” and being seen on film sets does not make one a star, but only “an actor who is part of a project” (sic).

His criticism of rankings and labels

In another post, Patel questioned actors who are using PR teams to project themselves as “number 1 and number 2”. He wrote, “Most of the female actresses who have not achieved even a single film in their career where even one of their films has done more than Rs 200 crore at the box office are paying their PR teams to call themselves No. 1 and No. 2? Really? This is 2026 and not 2000, today Rs 100 crore is nothing.”

Patel said, “A star becomes a global superstar only when he gives a big hit all over the world. It is always a good feeling for any actor to be a part of any project anywhere in the world. But you become a superstar only when you give those big hits. Stop the PR machinery.”

he finished with the name Kaho Na…Pyaar Hai (2000), Gadar (2000) Or Gadar 2 (2023) and write, “Not one but (not one, but) 3 biggest single blockbusters as a heroine, all 3 films of which I have given and till now they are the biggest hits of my co-stars.. But my fake PR machinery is weak unlike other actresses (sic),” she concluded.
