Spotify is bringing a new messaging feature in the music streaming app. This will allow users to share the recommendations without the need to recite each other within the app and use any external platform.

According to Spotify, the message will make it easier for users to share songs within the app. This not only adds more functionality to the app, but also adds a social element to the platform.

Currently, Spotify users can only make mix or jam through the app. Usually, one needs to share links to a song or playlist through an external platform. Messaging will allow users to spend more time on the platform.

Users just need to select a song, podcast, or audibook, now selecting the sharing button on the window playing. The app will then list its friends on the platform. A bus needs to select the person they want to share with the song, and click send.

The receiver will receive a message request, which they can accept or deny. After the request is accepted, both users can basically interact through DMS. For now, there is no group sharing facility in messages.

Spotify claims that all conversations will be encrypted according to industry standards. Users should follow the company’s current policy on illegal or harmful materials for messages.

Users can report any unwanted or harmful messages for spotify, which will be reviewed by mediators. Another users will be able to block or completely get out of messaging.

From this week, messages will be available for users of 16 and above in select areas.

Spotify had a similar messaging feature eight years ago which was removed in 2017 due to low user engagement.

Spotify not trying to change social media

By adding messaging functionality, it seems that Spotify is slowly trying to pitch itself as a social platform. However, the company emphasizes that apart from DMS, it focuses on better integration within the app.

Sharing features for social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook and X will be on SPOTIFY without any change. The music streaming platform claimed that messaging meant to share it with other apps instead of completely replacing it.

In recent weeks, Spotify has raised prices in many areas including India. The individual plan now starts at Rs 139 at the previous rate of Rs 119. The biggest growth in the family’s plan was seen, from Rs 179 to 28 percent increased from Rs 229 to Rs 229.
