AR Rahman is one of the country’s most acclaimed composers and record producers. He is a man of few words who likes to keep his personal life private. Recently, Sonu Nigam, who has worked with him on many occasions, revealed that he is aloof and doesn’t let anyone come close to his personal space.
In a candid interview with O2 India, Sonu Nigam revealed that AR Rahman never lets his personal relationships affect his work. He recalled his experience of collaborating with the singer for Dawood, Dil Se and Taal, where the composer was completely professional towards the singer. He was initially surprised when they worked together on Dawood, but also impressed by Rahman’s decision to give the corporation considerable creative freedom rather than dictate.
The messages come as the singer delves into the insider details of his United States tour, where despite knowing each other, the musicians limited their conversations to formal greetings. Nigam discussed that AR Rahman has a reserved personality as he does not gossip about others, nor is he interested in what is going on in others’ lives. However, the corporation does not consider this different approach as a drawback.
Rather, he praised it and highlighted that AR Rahman always respects others and is not one to hurt others’ sentiments. Sonu shared, “He doesn’t open up in front of anyone. At least, I have never seen that. Maybe he opens up in front of his old friends, who know him as Dilip. But I have never seen him open up or open up. Haven’t seen it.” To have a relationship with someone. He is not a sociable person, he is just busy with his work.”
Despite being at the height of his fame, the singer was impressed by the record producer’s attention to prayers and admitted that he never speaks ill of anyone. He never saw the musician be extremely friendly with anyone else. All these habits left an impression on Sonu Nigam, who believes that one should keep things the same.
