Sonos, a famous audio technology company, allegedly placed 200 employees as part of the company-wide reorganization attempt, reports The Verge. This step comes when Sonos wants to reduce the layers of management and focus on small, more efficient teams to improve decision making and streamline cooperation. The announcement was made by interim CEO Tom Conrad in a communication with employees, which highlights the need to become more agile in front of the ongoing challenges.
Conrad allegedly stated that Sonos was entangled in complex organizational structures, making cooperation more difficult than necessary.
He said, “One thing I have seen for the first time is that we have turned into a lot of layers, which have made it harder than cooperation and decision making,” he said in his message to the employees.
The trimmed is part of Sonos’s plan, which plan to reorganize its workforce in more compact, focused teams, ensuring that the company is better equipped to proceed to the necessary projects.
This round of pruning is larger than earlier deficiency in August, when the company abolished about 100 jobs. Sonos has faced various challenges, including a decline in demand for its products and failures from last year’s controversial mobile app updates. The app rollout was poorly obtained due to technical issues, causing dissatisfaction among users. The effect of this incident was quite large that it had contributed to the departure of former CEO Patrick Space last month.
As Sonos prepares to release its upcoming quarterly earnings report, this wave of job cuts has raised concerns about the company’s immediate approach. However, Conrad has committed to addressing previous misses, especially focusing on improving the experience of the mobile app. In addition to the trim, Sonos plans to reorganize its product teams, which divide them into hardware, software, design and dedicated groups for operations instead of organizing them around individual product categories.
While the company faces difficult times, its recent successes, such as Arc Ultra Soundbar, provide some optimism. Sonos is also preparing to launch a new high-end streaming device, which is expected to include advanced features such as HDMI switch.
