Search for Suriya’s return: Will Karthik Subbaraj’s retro dry mantra be?
Suria is one of the most famous actors in the Tamil film industry. However, he has not hit a big hit in the last decade. Will his upcoming film, ‘Retro’, will help end the drought at the box office for a decade?
Tamil cinema has given birth to many stars. From MGR-SIVAJI Ganesan to Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan and Ajit Kumar-Vijay, there were many stars that Kollywood has seen. While each of these actor was brought to his own trademark, Surya was also standing outside the rest. At one point, Tamil cinema explained one star as a rival to another. But, Suriya did not fall into the trap and made a place for itself.
While he made several commercial recreationals, he balanced him with many ideas-stimulating and hard-touching films, which shaped his career. However, in the last decade, Suria failed to give a blockbuster, which made a large number of.

After making his debut with a commercially successful ‘Neruku Ner’ in 1997, Suria announced his arrival with a hit. He faced many ups and downs on the way, but he gradually managed to establish himself as an actor who could adapt himself to any role. For every ‘poovellam ketpuppar’, there were ‘friends’. For every ‘Kakha Kakha’, there was a ‘Pithamgan’.

Suriya did a cameo in Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’. His five -minute presence under the direction of Lokesh Kanagarj as Rolex set the screen on fire. Since then, fans have been demanding a standalone film on Rolex, which is in tasks.
It was in 2024 that Suria suffered a massive shock when director Shiva’s ‘Kangwa’ hit theaters in theaters. The film, compared to the ‘Game of Thrones’, finished the box office as a huge failure, connecting the drought of large budget entertainment.
Will ‘Retro’ change the tide for Suriya?
Suriya now has to stop and think about her upcoming line-up of films and how she can achieve her position at the box office. For the beginning, he joined hands with director Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Retro’, which will be released in theaters on 1 May.
‘Retro’ discussed positively among the audience, thanks to the support of Surya and Karthik Subaraj. While producers are at least discussion, the film has all the necessary elements to grow up at the box office.
‘Retro’ follows the story of a dreaded gangster who leaves his past behind because he falls in love. Talk to IANSKarthik said, “This is not a normal arc of redemption. After ‘Retro’, Suria will be seen further under the direction of RJ Balaji, another project about which all have been said. Recently, he announced his upcoming film with director Venky Ataluri. In addition, the ‘Vadiwasal’ is in the pipeline with director Vetri Maran. If these projects achieve the best results for Suria, it will open the doors for more exciting cooperation.
