Scream 7 has finally been released in theaters. The latest installment of the much-loved horror franchise started off on a great note. Estimates suggest that the film made approximately US$8 million in its paid previews.

The film’s earnings are expected to see a big increase over the weekend. Based on trends, sales and buzz, Scream 7 is aiming to gross over US$60 million in its opening weekend. If it manages to perform at the expected level, the film will emerge as the second best opener of the franchise. For those unaware, the franchise’s best opener was Scream 6, which debuted to US$66.4 million at the worldwide box office.

Produced by Paramount Pictures and Spyglass at a production cost of approximately US$45 million, Scream 7 has received mixed reviews so far, which may have affected its box office performance. According to Deadline, the six installments of the Scream franchise have grossed over US$908.5 million combined, with the 1996 release, Scream, being the highest-grossing installment. For the record, the original film of the franchise collected approximately US$173 million at the worldwide box office over its lifetime. One should note that the data has not been adjusted for inflation and currency fluctuations.

It will be interesting to see how Scream 7 performs at the box office and whether it surpasses the last installment of the franchise or not. For those unaware, the film stars Neve Campbell, Jasmine Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Courteney Cox, with a fresh cast reprising their roles from the previous films. The film is directed by Kevin Williamson.
