Here are 5 foods you must eat during Shravan:

1. Sabudana

Sabudana is undoubtedly the most popular food consumed on fasting days. Also known as tapioca pearls, it is rich in fibre and essential nutrients, making it a healthy part of your diet. Make delicious khichdi or prepare sabudana tikkis to enjoy it as an evening snack.

2. Fruits

You can also eat a bowl of fruits during Shravan. They are not only very refreshing, but they will also keep you full for a long time. It is best to eat them raw rather than juiced to reap their benefits. Choose from fruits like bananas, apples, grapes, papaya, etc.

3. Nuts

We are often advised to eat a handful of nuts every day. Don’t stop yourself from doing so even in this holy month. Rich in vitamins and nutrients, these are a great snack to eat any time of the day. You can mix almonds, cashews and walnuts together.

4. Coconut

Another food that you should include in your diet is coconut. It offers a variety of health benefits and enhances the taste of your food. You can include coconut in your diet in many ways. Some of the options that you can try include coconut chutney, coconut rice, and coconut idli.

5. Peanuts

Peanuts offer a lot more than just being used for garnishing. They are high in protein and can help curb your appetite. Apart from this, consuming peanuts can also help improve heart health. However, remember to eat them in limited quantities.

Avoid these 5 foods during Shravan:

Now that you know about the foods you can eat, here are some foods you should avoid during this time:

1. Eggs

You should consume vegetarian food during the month of Shravan. Eggs do not fall into this category, so you should avoid eating them. Although they are rich in protein, they are considered inauspicious to eat during fasting.

2. Onion/Garlic

Onion and garlic definitely add flavour to the dishes, but they are prohibited from your diet during Shravan. This is because they are said to generate heat in the body. It is advisable to eat only sattvic food without these ingredients.

3. Fried foods

Anything fried is generally unhealthy for us. During fasting, our goal should be to eat healthy food to stay fit and healthy. Eating oily foods like pakoras and French fries can cause stomach problems like bloating and gas, causing discomfort.

4. Meat

It is advisable to abstain from eating all types of meat during Shravan. Be it chicken, mutton, pork or any other meat, one should avoid consuming them.

5. Spicy Foods

You should also minimise your intake of spicy foods. You can eat them in limited quantities, but avoid overeating them. This is because they can increase the body temperature and cause digestive problems like acidity.
