The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has announced that Tuesday, June 16 will be the first day of Muharram 1448 Hijri and the beginning of the Islamic New Year.This announcement was made after the sighting of the Muharram moon on Monday evening.The UAE also confirmed Tuesday as the first day of Muharram and the beginning of the Islamic year 1448 Hijri. The UAE Fatwa Council said it reached the decision after reviewing scientific data related to the sighting of the crescent moon in coordination with specialized scientific authorities and centers across the country.With the beginning of Muharram, the day of Ashura, which is celebrated on the 10th day of the month, is expected to fall on Thursday, June 25.The Hijri New Year marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar, which is used to determine important religious dates and rituals throughout the year.The occasion commemorates Hijrah, the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Mecca to Medina, an event considered a defining moment in Islamic history and the starting point of the Islamic calendar.In its statement, the Saudi Supreme Court prayed for the continued success of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, and for unity and solidarity among Muslims around the world.(It’s a top Google Trends topic.)
