The court’s decision argued that Chakravarti’s petition permanently maintained his passport. He argued that the ban “caused the delay and forced him to remember the assignment of the work.”

The court said that it had not violated any bail terms and fully supported the proceedings. The ruling now makes it easier for him to travel abroad for work. Rhea no longer needs permission for every trip.

Earlier, Chakraborty was required to submit his passport with the Bureau of Drugs (NCB) and seek the permission of the trial court for every foreign journey.

With the directions of the High Court, she can now retain her passport, but still inform the officers before and after each visit, share the details of her travel in advance, and keep her contact information available. The case is still pending, and no fee is charged.

His lawyer, Ayaz Khan, had earlier highlighted the impact of travel sanctions on his career. Chakraborty’s application pointed out the need for him to meet the commitments of work outside India, which was difficult due to the earlier court order.

NCB, through Advocate SK Halwasia, opposed the petition, arguing that he should not receive special treatment due to his celebrity status and warned that he could be a flight risk. Despite these concerns, Justice Neela Gokhale reviewed Chakraborty’s conduct during the test.

Justice Neela Gokhale said that other accused were given a similar discount, and saw that Chakraborty had cooperated with the test. She returned after permission for each foreign trip and never violated the terms of bail. The court stated that his availability for trial conclusion was “no reason to doubt”.

As part of the conditions of comfort, Chakravarti should continue to participate in all test dates until the court exempts it. He also needs to share his entire journey process, hotel and flight details four days in advance, keep his phone running and inform the authorities on his return.

The case, which includes 33 accused, continues.
