Sarke Chunar: Lyricist says he was only asked to translate the original Kannada song
Lyricist Rakib Alam said that he has not written the controversial Sarke Chunaar song but has only translated the Kannada version despite objections.

The track, filmed on Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, has faced criticism for its explicit content. in an interview with HT CityRakib Alam responded to the backlash by saying that he had not written the original songs, which were written in Kannada by the film’s director Prem.

Rakib said that he had initially refused to work on the song, as he felt that such lyrics would not work and might face censorship. However, he was later asked to translate only the original version into Hindi, which also contained some words deemed objectionable that were already part of Kannada songs.
He said, “When I was asked to write all this, I refused saying that such songs would not play and would also be censored. They told me to just translate the Kannada version literally and give it to them, then they would set it to the meter of the song. Words like ‘f**sega’, ‘cha**ga’‘All of these are present in the original version.”
Stating that the lyrics of the song have a double meaning, Raqib Alam said that although the song ultimately reveals that it is about a liquor bottle, everything that follows before it seems inappropriate. He said that he had refused to write such songs and questioned why he needed to be associated with such a song.

Following the backlash, the official version of the song was removed from YouTube. Raqib Alam said that the producers later contacted him and asked him to write a new version with clean lyrics, which he submitted the next morning, adding that the revised song was being recorded the same day and there were plans to release it with an apology note.
How has the industry reacted?
This controversy has also drawn reactions from within the film industry. Singer Armaan Malik wrote“It’s sad to see commercial songwriting reaching a new low.”
Filmmaker Onir commented, “And the Censor Board is busy naming a film #GhoosKhorPandat. We are becoming a strange country… opposing Valentines Day celebrations, inter-faith marriages/celebrations while this nonsense is okay.”
All Indian Cine Workers Association has written a letter to CBFCto which objection is being raised Sarke Chunar, It called for immediate action stating that such double meaning content is not acceptable in Indian cinema and can have a negative impact, especially on young audiences.
