Sanjay Gupta wants ‘Kaante’ to be re-released: It’s still very relevant
Director Sanjay Gupta spoke to IndiaToday.in recently about the trend of re-releases, the relevance of ‘Kaante’ and more.

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta is all set for his upcoming film ‘Visfot’, starring Fardeen Khan and Riteish Deshmukh in the lead roles. During the promotions of the film, Sanjay spoke to India Today about the new trend of re-releasing iconic Hindi films in theatres.
Sanjay said, “Our audience has become very discerning now. There is a lack of good theatrical content that can excite them to watch a film and that is probably the reason why cinema halls are seeing less footfalls these days. However, as far as re-releasing films is concerned, I think it is one way to bring the audience back to theatres. If I had to re-release one of my films, I would say it would definitely be ‘Kaante’ because a lot of people who are in their 20s now have not seen this film.”
“This is one film that I and my team often discuss about how it is still very relevant today. It was a film ahead of its time. My team also told me that the funny dialogues in the film could also turn into great meme content,” Gupta said.
Recently, films like Gangs of Wasseypur (part one and two), Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein and Laila Majnu were re-released in theatres.
