Openai CEO Sam Altman has indicated that the demand for software engineers may decrease in the future as Artificial Intelligence (AI) is developing. In a recent interview with Stratechry’s Ben Thompson, Altman discussed how AI-operated automation is already changing coding processes, some companies being generated by more than 50 percent of their code by AI.
“My basic belief is that each software engineer will do a lot for some time. And then at some point, yes, perhaps we need less software engineers,” Altman said.
During the conversation, Altman suggested that when software engineers are currently benefiting from increased productivity, long -term approaches could see a less requirement for human coders. He said that the biggest innings agent would come up with the advent of coding, a concept that involves handling AI autonomally complex programming works. However, he said that this technology is still being developed.
He said, “I think in many companies, this (AI coding) probably lasts from 50 per cent. But I think the big thing is that the agent will come with coding, who is not doing for the real,” she said.
Beyond software development, Altman also touched the business strategy of OpenAII, revealing that he is more interested in making AI-operated automation more interested in compared to advancing the advertising-based revenue model. According to him, instead of relying on AD revenue, focus is on offering advanced automated software engineers such as premium AI-operated equipment.
“Currently, I am more excited to find out how we can charge a lot of money for great automatic software engineers or other types of agents, actually a few numbers with an advertising model,” he said.
Openai CEO Sam Altman believes that students should focus on mastering the AI tool rather than learning specific coding skills, as AI is already automatic coding tasks in some companies. He said that the major skills for the future have the ability to adapt and learn rather than expertise in certain knowledge fields.
“Clear strategic thing is really good to use AI tools only. It is more common, I think people can cultivate flexibility and adaptability and also what others want and can also understand things to be useful for people. Learn to learn to learn, such as learning these general skills that seem to be important because the world is going to be important because the world passes through this transition,” they explained.
