Exclusive: Release of Salman Khan’s Mathrubhumi delayed due to Prashant Tamang’s death

Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan, now titled Mathrubhumi, was originally scheduled to release in early April. However, due to some changes in the script, the film has now been pushed forward. India Today has exclusively learned that one of the major reasons behind the delay is the untimely death of actor-singer Prashant Tamang.
A source close to the film shared that indian idol 3 Winner was contracted to play the main antagonist and had already shot several key scenes. However, some important parts were still pending when he died in January this year.

The source shared, “The team had some planned schedules where Prashant had to shoot some important scenes. His departure has left the team in an absolute crisis.”
While the makers had initially considered re-shooting Prashant’s scenes, it doesn’t seem possible at this time. The source said, “Close-ups could still be managed, but they were also part of wider action sequences. It would not only be financially unviable, but also a nightmare.”

Moreover, Salman Khan’s availability for dates and the consistency of his look are adding to the challenges, making the situation even more difficult for the team. At one point, they are even considering bringing in another actor to continue the role (like Paresh Rawal replacing Rishi Kapoor). Sharmaji Namkeen) or using AI and VFX to superimpose Prashant’s face in the remaining scenes. However, this would require the consent of his family.
The source said, “The decision will be taken by the end of this month as the film needs to be completed and post-production started. As of now, the team has not decided on the release date, but considering the theme, it may aim for an Independence Day release.”
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Homeland It also stars Chitrangada Singh. While the film was initially said to depict the 2020 India-China clash at Galwan, the updated theme now has the tagline, “May the war rest in peace”.
We tried contacting Lakhia for comment, but did not receive any response till the time of filing copy.
