On the third death anniversary of Dilip Kumar, Saira Banu shared an emotional note on Instagram. In her post, she shared some anecdotes and revealed that the celebrated actor “suffered from severe insomnia.”

Her note read, “See, sahab (Dilip Kumar) was the greatest actor of all time. He had everything, yet very few know that he had severe insomnia. Before we got married, even after taking pills, he would stay up till morning. However, once we got married and became indispensable to each other, he started sleeping on time. He also gave me a cute nickname that lovingly said, ‘Saira, you are my sleeping pill, you are my pillow.’ Even today, I laugh remembering the charm with which he used to say this.”

The veteran actor recalled another funny anecdote and wrote, “Another memorable incident was when he wrote me a note. He was very fond of music and would often have a full darbar in our house where one could witness the magic created by the artistes. Saheb, as usual, would often sneak out of the darbar to catch some sleep. One such evening, despite sneaking out, he found himself unable to sleep without me. So, he wrote a note, “Feeling sleepy, what do you suggest, Aunty? Yours 100 percent (sic).”
Saira also shared the picture of the note along with the caption.

Saira Banu also revealed that Dilip Kumar had a good relationship with the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as well as other notable personalities from various fields.

Finally she said that she is writing this note to express her love to all her fans and well-wishers.

“I am writing this note to express my love to all his loved ones, well-wishers, dear friends and family members who take the trouble to send us lovely messages on every occasion. I am glad that they all remember our important dates and pray for his future as Dilip sahab is an inspiration to six generations of actors as well as generations to come,” her note concluded.

Born on 11 December 1922, Dilip Kumar started his acting career with the 1944 film Jwar Bhata. He starred in ‘Jugnu’, ‘Andaz’, ‘Aan’, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ and many other classic films. He passed away on 7 July 2021.
