In the last few years, the prices of food items in theaters seem to be increasing rapidly. This often worries movie lovers who remain loyal patrons of watching movies on the big screen. Recently, an X post on this topic sparked a new debate online. X user Aditya Shah posted a screengrab of the prices of some items at an unnamed theater, as listed on Book My Show. He wondered who was paying such high prices for these places. In the caption he wrote, “Book My Show has some weird rates for food in theaters. Rs 430 for coke, Rs 720 for popcorn. I mean who orders this food at such obnoxious prices? “

The viral post is being liked a lot online. One person pointed out that the base prices are not set by Book My Show but by the theaters themselves. Many people felt the prices were too high. Some users claimed that they were responsible for the low viewership in theatres. Others suggested possible reasons why some people might be willing to pay whatever the price. Check out some of X’s reactions below:

It’s not their fault. They are displaying the prices of the respective cinemas with small markups.

These are one of the main reasons for low viewership in cinema.

Have to order at that price because they don’t allow us to get our own popcorn?

You’d be surprised how many teenagers and young adults think this is normal.

Most of the common people cannot watch movies without snacks… hence they are forced to buy at exorbitant prices…. this is one reason why OTT is making waves….
