Actress Rhea Chakraborty discussed the importance of healing and rebuilding her life five years after the death of her boyfriend, actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Speaking in a recent interview, the 33-year-old revealed that she is living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He also said that his brother Showik Chakraborty is struggling with similar mental health challenges after the tragedy that has affected their entire family.

During an appearance on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s chat show double date Along with her brother Showik Chakraborty, Rhea was asked if she has managed to overcome the trauma of the last few years. The actor said that recovery from such experiences is an ongoing process and not something that can be completely overcome.

“It’s not something you can really get rid of. It’s trauma. It lives in your body, if not in your mind,” she said, explaining that healing took longer than expected.

Rhea further added, “You do your therapy and you deal with it.”

The actor also reflected on how the public nature of the case made it even more difficult to deal with, with every development becoming a subject of discussion and scrutiny.

“Our affair was public, so everyone knows about it, everyone talks about it and it’s okay,” Rhea said.

The brother-sister were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in 2020 during a drug-related investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

Looking at how his life changed overnight, Showik said his life before the controversy was completely different.

He recalled being a studious young man who focused on academics and prepared to enter prestigious business schools such as the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and the Wharton School. He further added that nothing had prepared him for the unexpected turn his life would eventually take.

Showik said nothing could have prepared him for what happened next, adding that life took an unexpected turn and changed completely overnight.

He said it took about four to five years for the siblings to return to normal, although the emotional impact still remained.

He said, “It took us about four to five years. Even now, there are some days when you think, ‘This happened to me’.”

Showik also revealed that he still lives with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), explaining that even simple sounds can trigger painful memories of that period.

He said, “I still have PTSD. Sometimes a sudden doorbell ringing makes me jump back. There was so much chaos at that time that with every doorbell we felt like someone was coming behind us.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Rhea Chakraborty was last seen faces (2021) with Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi. He has also acted in films like Jalebi (2018) and my dad’s maruti (2013).
