RGG criticizes backlash against Kamal Haasan’s thug life, later removes the tweet

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma came forward to support actor Kamal Haasan amid a boycott against his film ‘Thug Life’, angered some groups after Hassan’s comment on Tamil and Kannada language. Verma threatened to ban the film ‘A new kind of hooligan’ on his social media, which he later removed.
The filmmaker shared the post on his X handle, wrote, “The new name of democracy is intolerance .., whether in spite of factual purity, thugs threatens to ban life in Karnataka until Kamal Haasan apologizes, a new type of hooliganism.” He later removed the post.

Haasan has contacted the Karnataka High Court demanding the release of his upcoming film ‘Thug Life’. The release of Mani Ratnam direction has been stopped by the Karnataka Film of Commerce on its controversial statements on the origin of Kannada language.
During a promotional program for ‘Thug Jeevan’, the actor said, “Kannada was born from Tamil.” Due to their comments-Kanada groups and their effigies retreated from public burning. Haasan refused to apologize in his X post and wrote, “Love will never apologize. I will only apologize when I am wrong. If I am not, I will not (SIC).”

The co-made Raj Kamal Films of ‘Thug Life’ is made by Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies and Red Giant films. The film is scheduled to release worldwide on 5 June.
