Tom Felton played a Gryffindor vs Slytherin cricket match with Harry Potter co-star Matthew Lewis aka Neville Longbottom, but what’s the verdict? On Tuesday, August 27, Felton shared a photo with Lewis and former stunt performer David Holmes on Instagram and announced that “bloody Longbottom” won the match by one run!
The match was part of the annual charity cricket event of Holmes, who was paralysed while working on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. The event was named David Holmes Cricket Cup. The former stuntman shared information about the 15th annual charity event on Instagram.
The incident first occurred when he was paralyzed from the chest down in an explosion on set while filming the seventh installment of the Harry Potter anthology. The incident resulted in a severe spinal cord injury and put his life in danger.
Holness said in a video posted to his Instagram, “Over those 15 years, my friends, family have all come together just in my honour, which is amazing and it’s raised a lot of money for charity, probably hundreds and thousands of pounds over the years.” Keeping up the competitive spirit, he revealed Team Gryffindor leads 8-7 after their recent win.
In November 2023, Daniel Radcliffe teamed up with Holmes – who was primarily his stunt double in the films – to produce the HBO documentary The Boy Who Lived. The title was both a reference to an iconic line from Harry Potter and a literal reference to Holmes’ survival after the fatal accident.
According to Holmes’ post and a GoFundMe campaign for the event, this year’s match raised money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the UK’s Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, which treated him after the accident and named him a hospital ambassador since 2013. Felton has also been involved with the hospital’s children’s charity since 2015.
Holmes previously shared a photo of himself with Lewis and Felton in a social media post and revealed that the annual event has raised more than £100,000 for the U.K.’s Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital over the years. He continues to share updates about the charity and some old posts about his accident and recovery.
