Redmi Pad Pro 5G quick review: An excellent tablet that handles multitasking with ease
The Redmi Pad Pro 5G is set to launch in India on July 29. The tablet promises to deliver a better-than-average experience, especially when used with the Redmi Pad Pro Keyboard and Redmi Smart Pen. Here are our initial impressions of the Redmi Pad Pro 5G.

Xiaomi is gearing up to expand its tablet portfolio. After the release of the Redmi Pad two years ago, the company is set to launch its new Redmi Pad Pro 5G on July 29. The new launch comes with several firsts. It is the first tablet from the company that works on both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity. It is also the first tablet to come with pre-installed Xiaomi HyperOS. It is a big upgrade from its previous model in terms of specifications. The Redmi Pad Pro 5G features a bigger 12.1-inch display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. While we reserve our final verdict for later, here are our first impressions about the Redmi Pad Pro 5G.
Design: Stylish Metallic Body
The Redmi Pad Pro 5G has a stylish metal unibody design. The Redmi Pad also has a metallic body, but here the company has tried to give it a slightly different look. The Redmi Pad Pro has a two-shade rear panel. On the back, the device has a wide strip on the right corner, with the camera setup on the top and the Redmi logo at the bottom. The device has a dual-ring deco camera, which gives it an elegant look. Talking about the front panel, the Redmi Pad Pro 5G has a thick but uniform bezel format, which makes it look like the Apple iPad 10th generation.
Display: Big and bright
The Redmi Pad Pro 5G features a bigger 12.1-inch display, while its previous model only had a 10.6-inch display. The upcoming tablet also beats the refresh rate of the Redmi Pad. The Redmi Pad Pro 5G offers a refresh rate of 120Hz as against 90Hz on its previous model. Adding to the list of firsts, the device also features Dolby Vision Atmos. Although I am yet to do more on the device, the 2.5K resolution does not disappoint when watching content on it. The vibrant and smooth display also makes scrolling the web fun.
Performance makes everything better
The Redmi Pad Pro 5G does everything very smoothly, at least so far. It is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset and runs on Xiaomi HyperOS. Whether it’s switching between apps or working simultaneously on a split screen, the Redmi Pad Pro is delivering promising performance. The tablet can open up to 4 windows at once. This includes 2 windows on a split screen and 2 floating windows simultaneously. And thanks to the large 12.1-inch display, it’s actually quite workable.
Don’t forget that the Redmi Pad Pro can also work with 5G cellular support. This means you can use a SIM in it so you don’t have to worry about Wi-Fi or hotspots all the time.
The accessories – Redmi Pad Pro Keyboard and Redmi Smart Pen – make the Redmi Pad Pro 5G experience even better. I am really enjoying the Smart Pen. It is the same size as your regular pen, giving the combo a pen and paper feel. The Redmi Pad Pro Keyboard, which is a case + keyboard combination, connects to the tablet via Bluetooth and turns it into a lap of sorts.
Right now we like that there is a lot to explore and test in the Redmi Pad Pro 5G. We will share our detailed review soon, but for now we can say that the tablet looks promising.
Battery and camera
The good news is that all three products, the tablet, the stylus, and the keyboard, support Type-C charging. The Redmi Pad Pro 5G packs a 10,000mAh battery with 33W charging support. I didn’t get a chance to note how long the tablet takes to charge, but it took about 60 minutes to charge from 44 percent to 100 percent. In the upcoming detailed review, we will also cover the battery drain on all three devices.
The tablet has an 8-megapixel camera at the back and an 8-megapixel front camera. While one would expect something basic from a tablet’s camera, the Redmi Pad Pro 5G does an above-average job. It has the same modes as the primary camera modes in smartphones, which I will discuss in the upcoming detailed review.
conclusion
Overall, after using the Redmi Pad Pro 5G for a few days, it delivers an above average picture. The bigger and vibrant display is a major upgrade and promises to deliver a better experience. We expect the device to be in the sub-Rs 30,000 price segment, excluding the keyboard and smart pen. The exact price of the Redmi Pad Pro 5G will be revealed at the launch on July 29.
