Xiaomi is teasing out details for the Redmi Note 17 Pro – earlier today, it was revealed that the phone will pack a 9,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging and 22.5W fast reverse charging. There’s more to it than that – Xiaomi is so confident in its battery technology that it offers a 5-year protection plan.
If the battery capacity drops below 80% during the first four years of owning the phone, Xiaomi will replace it for free. And if it goes below 80% in the fifth year, Xiaomi will do so upgrade it’s free.
You read that right – this will upgrade the battery to a higher capacity battery. At the rate things are going, we can easily believe that in 5 years’ time there will be batteries with capacities greater than 9,000mAh that fit into the same dimensions. Still, it’s quite bold to offer a free battery upgrade for such an old phone.
The image specifies +1,000mAh, so you may have a phone with 10,000mAh. Of course, Xiaomi is betting that all Redmi Note 17 Pro batteries will remain above 80% during that period. Also, this deal is called “First Sale Free Five-Year Battery Upgrade Guarantee”, so it looks like it will only be available to users who purchase the phone during the launch period.

Redmi Note 17 Pro: Battery upgrade guarantee, drop resistance and scam protection
Anyway, Xiaomi also talks about foreground app optimization, quicker startup times, and other changes in HyperOS that will keep the Redmi Note 17 Pro running smoothly over a period of 5 years. This includes wear leveling for storage that will keep read/write speeds high and minimize degradation.
It won’t matter if your phone drops and breaks, right? We’ve already seen a demonstration of just how robust the Redmi Note 17 Pro is in a dramatic teaser video. Today’s post comes with less lip service and more details – the phone has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and has passed the 3 meter marble drop test (i.e. dropping a metal marble from 3 meters on the screen). The phone is rated IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K for protection against splashes, submersion and water jets.
Finally, the phone has protection for you too – it will flag suspicious calls for potential scams and have AI face swapping (deep fake) detection.
Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro will be officially unveiled on July 14.
