Trigger Warning: This article references to murder.
On 14 April, Rapper Ty-K47, whose real name is Tayamor McIntire, was found guilty of murder in the murder of Mark Anthony Saladiver in 2017. The jury did not convince him of capital murder, but he found him guilty of low murder allegations. The verdict raised a brief moment of celebration from some people in the court, but it quickly calmed down.
Mcintyre’s sentence is still to be determined, and the jury will now decide if he will work on the sentence of 5 to 99 years, as reported by News4SA.
The McIntire, who was 16 at the time of the death of the Saladivar, faced the possibility of life in jail when he was guilty of capital murder. However, the jury chose a low murder charge, which now opens the door for a punishment that can spread from at least 5 years to a maximum of 99 years.
McIntire’s defense lawyer, John Hunter, reminded the jury of the defendant’s youth at the time of crime and urged them to keep the situation in perspective.
During the punishment phase, the court heard of McIntire’s previous sentence. Hunter said McIntire was convicted as an assistant for murder in a separate case in Fort Worth, Texas. In that case, Mcintyre was sentenced to 55 years in jail.
The defense counsel asked the jury to consider the age of the McIntire and did not ask him to consider it as Aragya. Hunter said in his closing argument, “We are not trying to portray this boy as a saint, and I am not asking you to forgive him.
Outside the court room, McIntire is widely recognized for his music, especially his 2017 hit song, The Race. The song was viewed by McIntire’s infamous wanted posters, gaining important popularity, at its peak at Hot 100 of Billboard, and more than 250 million times on YouTube.
