Rapper Nicki Minaj is facing a lawsuit accusing her of assault, battery and “intentional infliction of emotional distress” after claims she hit a former employee during an altercation. Brandon Garrett, who worked as a daily manager on Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 Tour, filed the complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court last Friday.

According to Garrett, the incident occurred backstage at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena after a Minaj concert on April 21.

Garrett claims Minaj became angry and hit him several times during a confrontation with his staff. The controversy reportedly arose from a miscommunication regarding an assignment related to Minaj’s prescriptions.

In a statement shared with DiversityMinaj’s attorney Judd Burstein denied the allegations and called them “completely false and frivolous”. “At this time, Mrs. Petty (Nikki is married to Kenneth Petty) has not been served with a complaint, and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Burstein said.

Judd expressed confidence that the case would be resolved in Minaj’s favor.

The lawsuit states that Garrett was called into Minaj’s dressing room, where he allegedly expressed his frustration over the staff’s roles and responsibilities.

During the confrontation, Minaj reportedly became upset that Garrett had assigned the job of picking her prescriptions to another employee. Garrett alleges that he yelled at her, made threats, and ultimately hit her, causing physical harm.

After the incident, Garrett says he locked himself in the restroom and later learned that he was no longer part of the tour. He claims he sought police assistance in Detroit and Chicago out of fear for his safety and filed an official report.

Garrett is seeking punitive and general damages, claiming the incident caused him significant distress.

Minaj has not publicly addressed the claims beyond a statement from her lawyer.
