Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of death and drug use.
Rapper Enchanting, whose real name was Channing Nicole Larry, died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. According to TMZ, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office said she died at age 26 on June 11 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas from a combination of the opioid painkiller oxycodone and benzodiazepines such as Valium and Xanax.
Enchanting was born in Germany while her father was stationed there with the US Army. She grew up mostly in Atlanta and spent her teenage years in Fort Worth, Texas. She began her music career at age 18 after high school. In 2020, she signed with Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records and released two albums: No Love in 2022 and Love Scarred / No Love in 2023.
Following her death, Gucci Mane expressed his grief on Instagram, calling her “a true star”. Mane added, “So sad to say RIP to such a great young lady, a true star, we all miss you Chant.” Enchanting’s collaborator Boogotti Casino also shared his grief, calling her a friend and a kind person who had a positive influence on his life.
Enchanting has spoken about the dangers of drug use before. On the Cigar Talk podcast in 2023, she warned about the risk of overdose, sharing her own experience of losing a friend to an overdose. She said, “I understand what people do, if they feel like they’re in pain or they’re just going through something, they want to feel better. But it’s a huge risk. Like, you take a pill and literally die immediately.”
Earlier, Gucci Mane’s wife Keyshia Ka’oir Davis defended her husband when he faced criticism following Enchanting’s death. Despite Gucci Mane being among the first to honor Enchanting, some fans suggested on Instagram that 1017 Records may be “cursed” and questioned the deaths of artists associated with the label, including another rapper, Big Scarr, who died of a drug overdose in 2022.
Keyshia responded in the comments of Gucci’s tribute post, saying, “Leave my husband alone! He signs these artists to help them and give them a better life! I wish it wasn’t like this! We love you baby girl shout out! RIH.”
Gucci Mane has been married to Keshia Ka’oir for the past 7 years.
