Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has become the center of controversy on social media after his appearance at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Referring to Shetty’s performance in Kantara Chapter 1, she described Guliga Daiva’s sister Chaundi as a “female ghost” and imitated the character on stage. With squinting eyes and sticking out his tongue, he performed a version of his signature “Primordial Scream”, causing Shetty to laugh.

Ranveer jokingly added from the stage, pointing towards Shetty, “Does anyone here want to see me in Kantara 3? Tell this guy.”

While the moment drew laughter at the venue, the video of the segment went viral online, sparking serious reactions. Many viewers felt that his portrayal was insensitive and disrespectful to sacred cultural beliefs.

One user on X wrote, “Ranveer’s reaction to the Kantara scene seemed really unnecessary and insulting.”

Another commented, “Ranveer Singh is literally making fun of Daiva Chaundi’s occupation in Kantara. How low can these film stars stoop for fame, money with zero respect for the sacred Tulunad Daivaradhane beliefs. Shame. Rishabh is enjoying that parody? (sic)”

A third user said, “Ranveer should have kept his mouth shut and not said anything about Kantara, now people are making fun of him for saying, uh, he is paying more for the film than it deserves.”

Another furious comment read, “I hope being an ardent devotee of Daiva, @Shetty_Rishabh had asked that clown @RanveerOfficial not to portray Daiva in this manner. That too in a comical manner. No, neither do we want Ranveer nor do we want another Kantara. Enough is enough.”
Someone else criticized the actor, saying, “In a show like this it’s their duty to make fun of everything!!! Cringe as usual.”

Take a look at the reactions:

As the debate continues, both Ranveer Singh and Rishabh Shetty are yet to respond to the online criticism.
